A Celebration of Life Service for Allan W. Hanson, Northwood will be held Monday, March 5, 2018 at 10:30am at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5-7pm at Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, Sunday, March 4th and 1 hour before services at the church on Monday. Interment will follow at Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood, Iowa. Allan passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood following a lengthy illness from a stroke.

Allan W. Hanson was born August 23, 1932 in Oskaloosa, IA to A. C. (Bud) Hanson and Freda (Rinden) Hanson.

He attended grade school in Northwood, and graduated from Northwood High School in 1950. He attended Iowa State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Farm Operations.

On September 6, 1953 he married the “Sunshine” of his life, Ardis Nylene Seuser at the old First Lutheran Church in Northwood, IA. Over the years, they welcomed 5 children – 2 boys and 3 girls to fill their home.

In earlier years Alan enjoyed hunting and fishing trips out west and in Canada with family and friends.

He was engaged in farming SE of Northwood for 15 years before joining the Northwood Coop Elevator, where he worked for 25 years before retiring in 1995.

Allan and Ardis spent 11 winters in Texas. He spent his days there, building houses for the poor in Mexico. They also traveled to nearly all Canadian provinces and most of the continental United States and Alaska. Riding a tandem bicycle, they crossed Iowa on RAGBRAI in 1997.

Allan volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. He was often called, when a project was so delicate it required Allan’s meticulous and patient attention, so as to save delicate handcrafted wood items.

Allan was a long time member of the First Lutheran Church of Northwood, serving on many committees including the church council and Trust Fund Committee. In recent years he was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Grafton.

He is survived by his wife Ardis, children: Linda (Ron) Christianson, Northwood; Gary (Debra) Hanson, Northwood; Teresa (Chris) Braun, Grafton; Mike (Teresa) Hanson, Kensett; and Susan Hanson, Mason City. Grandchildren: Erin (Phil) Bubb, West Des Moines; Joe (Mindy) Hanson, Jesup, IA; Levi (Vanessa) Hanson, Northwood; Dane (Kristin) Hanson, Dewar; William Braun, Cedar Rapids; Tiffany (Brent) Allen, Whitewater, WI; Natalie Braun and fiancée Jake Gregerson, Dodgeville, WI; Jenna Hanson and friend Shawn Ellingson, Glenville; Alex (Haley) Hanson, Northwood; Great-grandchildren: Maxwell, Sam and Emmett Bubb, Corbyn, Elynn, Camden, Ava, Jax & Kade Hanson. Sisters: Glennis Wignes, Fargo, ND; Juanita (Omer) Davidson, Northwood; Brother: Richard Hanson, West Des Moines; Sisters-in-law: Irma Perkins, Northwood; Margaret (Lyle) Krumm, Kensett; Lilly Loland, St.Ansgar: numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, A. C. & Freda Hanson; father-in-law, C.W. “Pat” Seuser; mother-in-law, Evelyn Seuser; brothers-in-law, Delbert Hanson, Stan Loland, Lloyd “Jack” Perkins; niece, Barbara Davidson; nephew, David Davidson.
