Obituary

Mrs. Dorothy Marie Carlson Perkins, age 95 of Northwood died Thursday, January 31, 2019, at Mason City Mercy Hospital.  Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday at Bethany Lutheran Church, Kensett with Reverend Tom Martin Officiating.  Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 PM Sunday February 3, 2019 at Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, Northwood, Iowa. Burial will be at Sunset Rest Cemetery Northwood, IA.

Mrs. Dorothy Marie Carlson Perkins was born December 3, 1923 to Swedish immigrants Axel L. Carlson and Marie Victoria Nordstrom Carlson on farm north of Bolan. Dorothy was the youngest of 7 children.

Dorothy graduated from Northwood High School in 1942. She completed State Teachers College at Cedar Falls and then taught rural schools in Worth County. After a tragic accident in 1972, she cared for her husband, Warren, for 30 years until his death in 2001. In 2016 she moved to assisted living at the Northwood Pines where she received loving care.

Dorothy was married to Warren Wayne Perkins. After Warren returned from Navel Service they farmed near Otranto and eventually lived and owned a farm East of Northwood.

Dorothy was a member of Bolan Church, Deer Creek Carpenter Church and Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett. She served on many offices in her Churches and WELCA.

 

Survivors include daughters: Vickie (Robert) Hall of Northwood, Sheryl Jahnel (fiance’ Robert Mitchell) of Cedar Rapids, Mary Perkins (Scott Hunt) of Crescent.

Grandchildren: David Hall of Carlsbad Caverans, NM, Dan Hall of Forest City, Doug Hall of Monticello, MN, Chad Jahnel of Iowa City, Michelle (Robert) Kitterman of Grimes, Kyle (Kelci) Jahnel of Rowley, Olivia (Donnell) Arnold of Wichita Falls, TX, Hanna (Heath) Guerdet of Council Bluffs, Shandra Hunt (Joel Wickersham) of Beaver Creek, Mia (Cory) Hansen of Council Bluffs, Morgan (Cliff) Hodges of Santa Cruz.
