On November 3, 2018, Phyllis Jean (Ellingson) Gordon age 78 entered God’s Kingdom peacefully. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, November 8 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Kensett, with Rev. Tom Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood. Visitation will be from 4 – 6 p.m. Wednesday, November 7 at the Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home.
On April 15 1940, Phyllis was born to Adolph and Selma (Mikkelson) Ellingson. She graduated from the last year of Northwood High School. Phyllis married Dean Gordon on March 29, 1959 and they made their home on a farm near Kensett. They had two daughters, Michele Gordon, Mason City, IA and Teresa Hanson of Kensett, IA. Phyllis was farm wife and often helped Dean with the farming driving combine on many occasion. Phyllis dedicated herself to being the best farm wife there was. She worked hard helping in lots of aspects of farm life
Early in their marriage when the girls were young they did some camping. When the girls were in their early teenage years, they traveled to Colorado to snow skin. They also took the girls all over the USA on numerous trips with their 5th wheel travel trailer. Phyllis taught and led the little kids singing in Sunday school. She played piano and led the Church Choirs on occasion he made sure the girls practiced their piano and learned their pieces for lessons preferably playing piano before Dean came in the house! She often taught Sunday School Dean and her made many banners for the Bethany and Elk Creek Churches. She belonged to Church Circle for many years and often took the Grand Children to functions at the church and they would help in the kitchen. Phyllis rode snowmobile and Motorcycle. Dean and Phyllis even took a trip thru Europe on a Harley. Phyllis enjoyed singing and she sang for many church related functions. Dean semi-retired at age 58 and this was the start of winters in Meza, AZ. Dean and Phyllis were married for 59 years.
Phyllis was survived By her husband , Dean Gordon, Northwood, IA, two daughters, Michele Gordon Mason City, IA and Teresa Hanson and Mike of Kensett Iowa. Grandchildren Nicole Sanderson, Charles City, IA and Jenna Hanson, (Shawn Ellingson, Fiancé) and Alex and Haley Hanson of Northwood, IA. These Grandchildren were fortunate to spend many days with Grandma Phyllis in summers and when they were sick so her daughters could work outside the home. The Grandkids have very fond memories of being on farm for the summers and other occasions. Phyllis has 3 Great Grandchild Carter Sanderson and Kade and Kinsley Hanson.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Arlo Ellingson and Sylvia Bakken.
