Dick was born on July 11, 1941 in Osage, IA to Wilma (Beyer) and Lloyd Hansen. Immediately following graduation from St. Ansgar High School in 1959, Dick enlisted in the Marines. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA with the Delta Company 7th Engineers where he worked as a truck driver/mechanic. After 4 years in the Marines, he was united in marriage to Susan Strode in 1964. They were blessed with two children, Dana Susan Schauster and Mark Allan Hansen. They later divorced. In 1983, he married Helen Warmington. He returned to Iowa after their divorce and has resided in Osage the last 4 years.

After his military service, Dick was employed in California as a mechanic for CL Pharris and then Laura Scudders where he later became a driver, working there for 22 years. He then worked for Bell Brand Foods and later Lucky’s after which time he retired. After his retirement, he traveled extensively in his motor home visiting National Parks and Canada. Dick enjoyed traveling and especially the many times spent at Lake Havasu, AZ. He often spoke of a memorable fishing trip to Alaska with friends.

Dick was a Lifelong Member of the American Legion with memberships in California and most recently in Osage, Iowa. He was a proud Marine Veteran. During his final days he was deeply moved by the Flag Ceremony given to him by the staff at Mayo St. Mary’s Hospital.
