Rufus Jerome Glassel was born April 7, 1932, in rural Plymouth, Iowa, to Lawrence and Melinda.  Welcomed by sister, Loretta.  He farmed east of Plymouth.  Graduated from Plymouth High School and served in the Korean War.  Upon returning, he engaged in farming with his Dad.  He married Doris Feldt on March 10, 1956 in Osage.  They had 3 daughters; Sharon, Patti and Teri.  In 2003, Rufus and Doris moved to Mason City.

He was proud to honor the home century farm in 2017 at the Iowa State Fair, the same year he was diagnosed with cancer.  He was a private man and never talked about his illness, living his life to the fullest till the end.  He was well known for his ability to get the most out of his machinery by “Rufusizing it.”  After retirement he enjoyed golfing and spent many hours helping improve and maintain the Manly golf course.  Rufus was an avid snowmobiler and motorcycle enthusiast, riding with several good friends out west and around locally.

He was a faithful member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church.  He enjoyed working at the fellowship hour.  A tireless volunteer, he will be missed by many.

Those left to cherish his memory are his 3 daughters, Sharon (Bill) Trousdale, Patti (Duane) Rustad, and Teri (Mike) Sorenson, 10 grandchildren, Cory (Denise) Trousdale, Kyle (Lindsey) Trousdale, Ryan (Ashley) Trousdale, Aaron Rustad, Megan Rustad, Taylor (Brian) Huinker, Klay (Nikki) Rustad, Kayla (Ted) Pappas, Katie (Josh) Bass and Brett (Heather Azcarate) Sorenson; and 14 great grandchildren, Trevor, Serena, Kenzie, Bo, Reese, Henry, Lane, Bryce, Lilly, Harper, Amelia, Wyatt, Conner and Carter.  He is also survived by a special friend, Janet Meyer; adopted son, John Helgren; brothers-in-law Bill (Janice) Feldt and Merle Hoffman and also many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his wife, Doris in 2005; his parents; and his sister and brother-in-law Loretta & Bob Hackbart.
